If you’re thinking about getting into karting, you’re on your way to lots of fun and exciting adventures at the track. This activity is a great way to put your driving skills to the test and enjoy some thrilling competition while spending quality time with your friends or family. It’s no wonder karting is one of the fastest growing pastimes in America these days!

As a newcomer, one of your very first decisions will be whether to buy an electric go kart or the traditional gas model. This is not an easy decision, particularly since kits and parts typically cost thousands of dollars. This is a lot of money for most folks, so it makes sense to have a good idea of what you’re getting into before you actually buy anything. That being said, I think you’ll find that an electric go kart would be the better choice.

There are several reasons that an electric go kart is superior to a gas version. First of all, there are no emissions noise issues to worry about. These are the two biggest complaints that track owners receive from nearby residents, and have caused more than one track to be targeted by environmental groups. An electric go kart emits zero smoke, and operates relatively quietly. It’s not completely noiseless, but there’s a major difference compared to the gas models. The bottom line is that karts powered by electricity are not going to cause any pollution problems, thereby making them good for you and the environment.

Another solid reason to buy an electric go kart is that they don’t cost as much to operate. Obviously with traditional karts, you have to keep filling them up with gasoline every time you feel like heading out for a day of driving. This fuel expense, along with the generally higher costs of replacement parts, can really hit your wallet hard after a while. With an electric go kart, you simply have to make sure the motor is charged up and you’re good to go. In addition, replacement parts are much cheaper, so even if you have a bit of a spill, you’ll be able to fix your ride up without breaking the bank.

And finally, you’ll get terrific, long-lasting performance out of your electric go kart. Some people seem to think that these machines aren’t as powerful as their fuel-driven counterparts, but that’s simply not the case. In fact, many of the non-gasoline karts on the market today can get you from 0 to 30 miles per hour in less than three seconds, which is plenty of speed for a beginner.

As you can see, an electric go kart will give you more bang for your buck while still providing you with all the exhilarating thrills of zooming around a tight track at top speeds. This is one purchasing decision you won’t regret!

Off-Road Running with New Balance Trail Shoes

February 24th, 2010 No Comments   Posted in Adventure

I follow a pretty strict workout regimen in order to stay in shape. As part of the program, I run have to run close to 25 miles per week. That seems like a lot, but it breaks down to five miles per day for five days, with two days of rest. That’s less than 50 minutes per day, which is extremely manageable, even for a non-athlete like myself. Nevertheless, 25 miles a week is still hard on the knees, particularly when I have to run on concrete sidewalks or asphalt streets. That’s why I recently invested in a pair of New Balance trail shoes.

With New Balance trail shoes, I can comfortably go off-road and jog on softer surfaces that are easier on all my joints. New Balance trail shoes have a lot of great features that benefit runners like me, and have proven to be an excellent buy thus far. For example, I love all the lugs on the bottom of the shoe. These give me exceptional traction on dirt and grass, and allow me to go full speed without worrying about losing my footing and taking a tumble. In addition, the shoe comes with extra cushioning in all areas to absorb the numerous shocks that come about from running on trails and paths.

I also love how my New Balance trail shoes have a special “Lightning Dry” liner to help wick moisture away from my feet while I’m jogging. This not only makes me more comfortable throughout my workout, but also helps prevent blisters and other foot ailments that could knock me off my training schedule. Another terrific feature on my New Balance trail shoes is the “rock stop” guard near the toe area that protects me from getting nicked by sharp rocks or sticks while I’m off the beaten path.

I was expecting to pay quite a bit for exercise equipment of this quality, but luckily I decided to look around on the internet first. I found several sporting goods websites that offer discount New Balance trail shoes for much less than what I would have paid at a regular retailer. I just had to make sure I knew my size before placing my order (I went to a local store to try on a few pairs), and I was good to go. I ended up saving about 35 percent off the suggested retail price, and got free shipping on the deal too.

Now that I’ve been running on softer surfaces with my New Balance trail shoes for a few months, I’m really starting to notice the difference. My knees don’t ache as much, and I don’t get fatigued as quickly during my outings. I have a feeling this purchase will allow me to flourish in my training program!

Zeiss Spotting Scopes

February 22nd, 2010 No Comments   Posted in Adventure

My father was a collector. Be it baseball cards as a kid, or pocket knives as an adult, or binoculars as an old man, he was a collector til the day he died. Some might say that he was a bit of a packrat, as well – certainly that’s what my mom said as she was going through the house finding box of old effects after box of old effects – but really, he just liked collecting things. I think there’s a distinction there, though others might obviously disagreee.

As I mentioned, my father collected scopes and binoculars in his old age. A favorite of his were zeiss spotting scopes, simply because of the workmanship and inherent value. zeiss spotting scopes are considered top of the line for the industry, the baseline against which all other scopes and binoculars are measured. And when my father passed and we ended up going through his stuff, we found, quite literally dozens of zeiss spotting scopes.

It’s funny because he wasn’t a very good shot. Not a marksman, not by any stretch. And not even zeiss spotting scopes could fix that.

But that didn’t deter him or his interest in optics. He was a collector and a tinkerer, and he spent his time and money doing what he loved. Can’t really go wrong there.

Now, most hunters and nature enthusiasts consider zeiss spotting scopes to be the best on the market today. One model in particular – the Diascope 85 – comes in for particular praise. Whether it’s Field & Stream or American Outdoorsman, nearly every review for the Zeiss Diascope 85 is positively glowing.

It not only boasts superior optics, but it does the little things right as well. Take for example its tilted design; this makes it much easier for people of different heights to use that particular scope. This is important since, if you’re out in the woods, the last thing you want to be doing is moving around a bunch, scaring the animals you’re either hunting or trying to photograph.

It also has a roating eyepiece, which can be moved to the side, so that kids can use it as well. It’s really an ideal scope, the best of the zeiss spotting scopes out on the market.

Of course, it doesn’t exactly come cheap. If you want the Diascope 85 you should expect to shell out nearly two-thousand dollars. But if it’s your hobby, if you’re a collector, then it’ll be worth every penny.
