I live in a town that loves its medieval reenactment. Our town has no authentic claim to medieval history, but about a century ago, some eccentric millionaire built a fairly accurate replica of a castle right near the middle of the town. The rest, as they say, is history; tourists were drawn to the impressive and ostentatious site, and a creative anachronism community sprung up to cater to their tastes. You can scarcely walk down the streets without seeing medieval swords for sale alongside talismans, chainmail and Renaissance clothing.

I run a small tavern in town, and have been reworking it to have a more historical theme so it will draw in the tourists. I teamed up with a local shopkeeper to offer medieval swords for sale in addition to poison rings, embroidered bags and other Renaissance-style trinkets. I wanted to put in a bit of authenticity, so rather than offering purely decorative medieval weapons, I sought ones that were as close as possible to the arms people wielded during the middle ages. It turned out that that was easier said than done.

Like other sorts of manufacturers, people who make medieval swords for sale like to produce their wares as cheaply as possible. Therefore, authenticity isn’t always stressed. The ones that are sold for decoration have elaborate ornamentation installed, but couldn’t stand up to a battle. The ones that are more rugged are often created using modern metal forging techniques that would not have been available during the Middle Ages. Even the swordsmiths who try to forge authentic medieval swords often use the same technique for all their swords rather than trying to manufacture each type of sword according to the method used during its era.

Faced with so many different options, I decided to go as authentic as I could without pricing myself out of the range of my target audience. I ordered a small selection of medieval swords for sale styled after ancient swords and made with the durability to take a beating. I knew that people sometimes bought swords as presents for their kids, so I stocked only dull swords to minimize the risk of injury. I also stocked a variety of weapons from different periods, including longswords, bastard swords, rapiers, daggers, cudgels and cutlasses. Although not all of them were truly weapons from the middle ages, all of them would appeal to fans of the weapons of antiquity.

If you are considering taking up model railroading as a hobby, you probably have wondered about certain terminology that those with experience in the field seem to use. The model railroad scale is one of those terms that you can never figure out as an outsider to the hobby. Let’s explain it a little better. When you decide to invest in a model railroad set, you’ll find that every bit of hardware, the tracks, the train itself and all the accessories, come in several sizes or scales, each one with its own name. In the beginning, the scale names used only referred to how wide the tracks were. These days though, those are considered specifications that include everything to do with a railroad set. If you want to be assured of buying a set that is completely compatible, you want everything to take the same scale.

What do model railroad scale names sound like? Usually, they are several letters of the alphabet and combinations thereof. The most popular ones are HO, N and O. What exactly does this mean? A model railroad scale name goes to show you how much smaller than the real thing a model is, proportionately speaking. The HO scale size for instance is one-eighty-sevenths smaller than the real life engine it takes after. If you have a model engine on the HO scale that is 9 inches long, that means that the real engine it’s been scaled on is 87 times as long as that – or about 65 feet. Most people prefer the HO model railroad scale because it’s big enough without being too big. You could probably fit a basic railroad loop with a few sidings inside 10 feet. Should you buy HO?

The good part to buying HO is that it’s the most popular size and economies of scale really kick in in your favor. If you feel that HO size is rather too big for you, the size that comes next on the scale is the N. It is half the size HO is, and in general, you can do with an N scale model railroad set about four times as much as what you could do with the next bigger size. In about 10 feet, you can get a really elaborate railroad route all nicely arranged in. N is the size of the future in model railroad scale. It lets you do so much more, while still being big enough to be a boatload of fun.

As hard you try to make sure that the porcelain collectibles you buy are the genuine article, there are times that the best precautions can end up being inadequate. For collectors of antique porcelain, there is a lot of reading material out there to help with the buying process, to help stay clear of counterfeit wares. The reason writing about fake porcelain can be an area of so much investigation is that even with all the expert knowledge on your side, there’s no guaranteed way to stay clear of a fake all the time.

You might recall having read in the papers of instances where museums have found themselves on the receiving end of fraud or trickery to do with fake porcelain collectibles and other art. With fakes that are made by real artists and that do the circuit masquerading as the real article, it can often be impossible for even the experts to tell the difference. The worst examples of counterfeit porcelain collectibles are the ones that use handpainted backstamp markings for the clearest effect. Of course, these are far more misleading than all of the pieces that are passed off with no markings at all. These try to pass themselves off on quality and not some fake certification of authenticity.

For instance, Limoges is to porcelain what Bordeaux is to wine. They are both regions in France that are famous for the craftsmanship developed and perfected there. There’s been a deluge of fake Limoges porcelain hitting US shores of late, making its way over here from China. Most people will look at the Limoges badge and imagine that it’s a brand, kind of like Wedgwood or Royal Doulton. Limoges was never a brand though – it was only a mark of having been made in a certain place. Cleverly, Chinese-made porcelain collectibles marked as Limoges have the Made in China mark conveniently placed on the sticker that can be removed by retailers who wish to pass it off as what they are not.

Consider porcelain collectibles with the Occupied Japan mark for instance. These were made after the US, after Pearl Harbor, defeated Japan and occupied the country for a few years. Porcelain made and marked as such has quite a bit of value. Most pieces you see now marked Occupied Japan now however are modern counterfeit products. The only way to really be able to tell the real thing from a fake would be to expose yourself to the nuances of the beauty of all porcelain as much as possible. There is no substitute for real world experience, for handling great porcelain, reading about them, and learning from the experts.

Of all the silver dollars ever minted, the Seated Liberty Dollar, the Peace Dollar and the 1921 silver dollar, rank among the most valuable to possess. It isn’t uncommon to have one of these exchanged for a fortune these days, so valuable can they be. The amusing thing though is that they are still considered legal tender. In other words, a silver dollar is legally still worth only the price of a can of soda – even if you could sell it to a coin collector for hundreds of thousands of dollars (the dollar, not the soda). With the 1921 silver dollar, value seen depends on the condition and the mint location.

Coin collecting is a profitable pastime that has evolved over the years. At first, just to have an interesting-looking coin collection was all that mattered. Over time though, specialist tastes began to play an ever increasing role in how these coins were valued. For instance, VAM was an attribute that raised the 1921 silver dollar value considerably. The VAM moniker stands for Van Allen – Mallis, and this goes to describing the kind of the die used in the minting of the coin. Since each kind of VAM die can be tied to a certain year in production at the mint, the verifiability of this quality raises the value of the dollar considerably. It’s just a quality that makes a silver dollar much more identifiable and valuable.

A 1921 dollar happens to be especially valuable, because it was the last year that the Morgan silver dollar was ever produced. All of these were made with 90% pure silver. In the year 1918, the government under the Pittman Act recalled all Morgan silver dollars, brought them in, and melted them for silver. Hundreds of millions of dollars were recalled for this purpose. The ones that escaped the recall are the ones we trade for so much now. Today, only about 15% of all Morgan silver dollars ever produced still exist.

It isn’t just a 1921 silver dollar that retains such great value. An 1895 one commands $100,000 on the market; and an 1893 one can go for more than $1 million in an auction. One wonders how this particular coin came to be worth as much as it is. It certainly is a beautiful work of art, and its creator, the Mint Master George Morgan, certainly did an outstanding job. It just goes to show you that coin collecting can be a very profitable hobby. Determining whether a coin you have is actually worth a fortune can be quite a difficult process. The uncertainty of it all can only add to the excitement though of collecting coins.

NASCAR is full of excitement, and during the season die hard fans schedule their responsibilities around it. They don’t want to miss a minute of the action. NACSAR fans really take an interest in their drivers and in their teams. They want to know what they are doing to prepare for the races, how many points they have, and they are willing to buy various types of NASCAR memorabilia.

Licensed NASCAR items are real money makers, and it is likely that you see people wearing it all the time. Just about any type of clothing you can think can be linked to NASCAR. There are shirts, jackets, sweaters, hats, bandanas, watches, socks, and even sunglasses. You can find plenty of NASCAR items for your vehicles too including emblems and stickers.

There are plenty of NASCAR memorabilia as well. Flags, pendants, die cast cards, bobble heads, and plaques often can be found. Autographed items from NASCAR drivers and the crew are something that adds delight to the collections as well. Some people are lucky enough to meet these people and get the autograph on their own. This often gives it a very special meaning. Most people have to settle for buying the memorabilia with the autographs already on them.

Sometimes you can get lucky at a live NASCAR race and get some one of a kind items. Pieces of tires, parts of the vehicle that was involved in a wreck, and even clothing from the actual drivers. You have to be in the right place at the right time though in order to benefit from these types of NASCAR memorabilia.

The cost of these different items really depend on what you buy and where you buy it from. You will likely pay more at NASCAR races and shops. There are often great deals to be found online, especially in the off season. The more that a particular driver or team is in demand them more expensive their items will be. Those of legend Dale Earnhart that was killed during a race are very hard to find due to the collector’s status.

You can find NASCAR memorabilia all of the place as it isn’t restricted to just particular stores anymore. You can also get it online though as this is where you will find the largest selection of it. For clothing you can find men’s, women’s, and even children’s sizes to choose from. NASCAR has such a loyal fan base that you will always find what you are looking for.

Memorabilia is a type of collectible that is from a particular category. There is no limit to what people will find as a collectible. There are all sorts of fads and frenzies out there that result in people collecting such items. Some of them end up being a flash in the pan but then others last for decades. The items a person collects may be worth a great deal of money or they could end up being valuable to them only.

Since people all have their own interests, it can be hard to understand why someone would choose to have the memorabilia that they do. It is important to respect what others want to collect though. Sports memorabilia is extremely popular because there are so many of them. A person often likes a particular sport or a particular team so there is plenty to be found.

You will see people with signs in their yards, blow up players on game days, and stickers on their vehicles. There are also jerseys, hats, jackets, and even pens that represent various sports and their favorite teams. You can find plenty for your local teams in town but you may have to order for other teams from online.

Memorabilia can be for a person’s favorite band or their favorite actors as well. You can collect movies, pictures, posters, articles of their clothing, and even props from movies or their music videos. Some types of memorabilia is worn and others are just displayed in the home or office. It really depends on what you are looking for and the type you collect.

Memorabilia can be just a couple of dollars or you can pay a large sum for it. These types of materials allow you to express your passion about a particular team, person, or entity. New forms of memorabilia are always coming out too so the selection means you will likely find more items than you can afford to get at any one time.

Have fun with your memorabilia, but pay attention to the demand for it. You may have your hands on something that is going to be a valuable collector’s item one day. For example rookie sports cards children have increase in value when the players move into the professional leagues.
