Knives have certainly come a long way in the last couple of decades. Ever since the thumb stud was added to the pocket folder, more and more people are choosing to carry knives. Naturally this doesn’t mean that folks are turning to tactical folding knives as a means of self defense. It simply means that you can carry Al Mar, Benchmade, CRKT, SOG, Spyderco or Kershaw knives with ease now days. with a nifty pocket clip on the handle and a thumb stud on the blade, carrying a folder around and deploying quickly is a cinch.

What sets Kershaw knives apart from the rest of the production brand names? Well, there are a number of factors here to consider. First of all, you should know that Kershaw knives are made in the USA. Their plant is actually in Oregon, along with several other knife makers. Secondly, you should know that the “assisted opening” feature started with Kershaw. This is an invention by Ken Onion, a well-known custom knife maker and cutlery pioneer. Some of his classic and new-age designs are used on Kershaw production knives. That means that they’ll be a heck of a lot cheaper than buying one of his custom pieces. The benefit of the “torsion bar” or coil assist mechanism is that you can begin to deploy the blade of your Kershaw folder and then will immediately snap open, similar to an automatic knife, but without any buttons. You know what that means, they’re generally legal!

Kershaw knives are awesome because they’re constructed well and affordable. If you’re looking for a quality folding knife for under 100 bucks, you can find one from Kershaw. Naturally you can go up their production scale to the finer knives as well and pay a bit more. Kershaw knives incorporate several grades of blade steel, but their finest is currently S30V. This is the epitome of great steel in the knife market at this time. Enjoy sifting through a variety of Kershaw knives on the web. You’ll find all sorts of Kershaw’s on webses like knifeoutlet.com, onestopknifeshop.com and bestknives.com. Just a word of advice, these webses are much cheaper than purchasing directly from Kershaw.
