The new PlayStation Vita utilizes a new media format known as the PS Vita Card. These small flash memory cartridges store game data and allow you to load games much like a Nintendo DS cartridge or similar media. However, the change in format has left many people wondering about the backwards compatibility of the PS Vita with previously purchased games for the PlayStation Portable. Fortunately, Sony has offered a variety of features on the PS Vita that allow you to enjoy older games and content on the new device.

PlayStation Network Support

By registering your PS Vita with your PlayStation Network account, you can download any PSOne Classics, PS Minis and most PSP downloads that you previously purchased. PSP downloads are being added as games are tested for full compatibility. These should install and run flawlessly on the new PS Vita. Icons will be created in the LiveArea interface that allow you to launch these games with the tap of your screen.

Backwards Compatibility for Universal Media Discs

With the switch to PS Vita Cards, a UMD reading drive was not included with the PS Vita. At this time, no known plans have been made to release an external UMD reader for the PS Vita. However, there is still a way to enjoy your games on the new PS Vita as long as you have access to an original PlayStation Portable that is linked to your PlayStation Network account.

By using the UMD Passport program, you can register games that you own on UMD using your PSP. This allows you to buy downloadable versions of supported games at a reduced price from the PlayStation Vita Store. The process is quick and easy. Simply download the UMD Passport app on your PSP, launch the app, insert any UMD games that you wish to play on your PS Vita and follow the on-screen prompts. After you have completed the process on your PSP, launch the PlayStation Vita Store and check for your discounts in the PSP downloads section.

Graphics for PSP Downloads

A few small features are accessible for PSP downloads that allow you to optimize the graphics for PS Vita display. With the substantial increase in both resolution and screen size from the PSP to the PS Vita, there are noticeable jagged edges and inconsistencies in the display of many PSP games.

However, these are just a result of stretching the image to fit the new display and do not interfere with playing the games in any way.

Control Options for PSP Downloads

There options available on the PS Vita to map controls to the second analog control stick. However, any commands sent using the stick are interpreted as button presses. This means that it will not function as a pressure sensitive throttle or notice differences in stick movement.

The new PlayStation Vita brings more and better-quality entertainment plus advanced communication and sharing features. You certainly have many questions such as “What are LiveArea screens on PS Vita?” Find out more about these exciting new features and how to make the most out of them.

LiveArea is a major user interface feature of PS Vita. It uses screens that have the purpose of hub pages or main ports. The main LiveArea screen is the one that shows up when you turn the console on. It has icons for all the major apps of the system such as the music playing, video playing and web browsing ones. You just need to use the touch functionality of the screen to get to any app of your choice. Tap on the application that you want to use and you will be taken directly to the program.

All games that you have on the PS Vita have LiveArea screens. In their design, these screens do not differ from the main one. However, they have game-specific applications and information. On the screen, you will find apps such as Near, Chat, Friends and Trophies. These allow you to check your entire communication with fellow players on any specific game. You will be able to visit message boards with tips and helpful general information.

The really great thing about the LiveArea screens on PS Vita is that they offer available updates and add-ons. You do not have to worry about your game becoming outdated and about missing on great new tools for playing. You do not have to follow message boards and official websites. You get everything automatically. This is a huge benefit to have. Furthermore, you can keep everything related to a game on a single flash memory card so that things are neat and tidy.

LiveArea screens on PS Vita allow you to hop from one part of the game space to another easily and quickly. The entire interface is really simple to use, even if you have never owned a portable handheld console from Sony before. Thanks to the touch screen, moving from one game area to the next does not require the seemingly endless pushing of buttons. You just have to slide your finger across the screen and tap on the icons.

You will certainly like the LiveArea screens on PS Vita just like all the other features the system comes with. You get everything that you can possibly want for enjoying every game to the fullest with or without your friends.

With its stunning graphics, innovative inputs and powerful performance, the PS Vita is going to change the way the world looks at portable gaming devices. The release date of February 22 for the PS Vita Game Console is rapidly approaching. This means that your window to pre order PS Vita is closing as well. Pre-ordering the PS Vita is highly recommended if you hope to get your hands on this new gadget on release day.

Limited Quantities

From the original PlayStation to the PlayStation Portable, release quantities have always been limited. Shortages have lasted for months with some devices, such as the PlayStation 3. For many potential buyers, this meant standing in line for hours at a time or paying drastically inflated prices from second-hand sellers on the Internet. Launch day sales of the PS Vita in Japan were very similar. Many stores sold out of their entire stock of PS Vitas Game Console within minutes. If owning a PS Vita within months of its release is important to you, pre-ordering is essential.

Pre-Order Bonuses

Depending on your location, there are many pre-order bonuses available for the PS Vita. Offerings range from accessory bundles and PlayStation Store discounts to gift cards and game bundles. This can add significant value to your pre-order that will no longer be available once the device is released. In many cases, these promotional items are only available through pre-orders. This makes them collectible and highly desired by gaming enthusiasts.

Early Access

The PS Vita First Edition bundle is available for pre-order exclusively in the US and Canada. This bundle deal offers a limited edition case, 4GB PS Vita Memory Card and a bonus game for a slightly increased price. However, the biggest appeal of this pre-order bundle is the release date. Anyone who pre-orders this bundle can start enjoying their new PS Vita on February 15. This is one week before the official launch of the device.

Convenience

Pre-ordering your PS Vita Game Console means you can bypass the crowds and lines. With the release of the PlayStation 3, hopeful purchasers gathered in lines and waited for 24 hours or more in hopes of securing one of the new consoles. Many retailers will hold special launch events at midnight for the new handheld. For many people, heading to the store at this hour is simply not possible. By pre-ordering, you can pick up your new PS Vita anytime during normal business hours. For added convenience, some retailers are offering release day shipping to your door on this device. This allows you to enjoy your PS Vita on release day without having to leave the house.

What is Great About the PlayStation Vita (PS Vita)?

Display: Whether you’re gaming, watching movies or using the apps available in the PlayStation Vita Store, the display on the PS Vita is crisp, vibrant and incredibly bright. The OLED technology used in the display allows for deep blacks, bright whites and bold colors. The brightness of the screen allows for use even in bright light or direct sunlight in most cases as well. Developers have only had access to the system for a short time and games already present graphics that could go toe-to-toe with both the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 in quality. Display quality is likely to get even better as developers learn how to fully harness the power of the PS Vita.

PlayStation Network Integration: If you have used the PlayStation Network before, you can use the same account on your PS Vita. This provides easy access to your existing friends list as well as any PlayStation Minis, PlayStation Suite, Digital Comics or PSOne Classics you might have purchased for other devices. This feature also brings Trophy Collections to the handheld market. All changes on your account sync seamlessly with any PlayStation 3 or PlayStation Portable devices connected to your account for easy management.

Comfort: While the device is larger than many handheld gaming devices on the market, the way

PS VITA

the device feels in your hands is surprisingly good. Slight indentions on the back of the device offer a firm fingertip grip during one-handed operation. The weight of the PS Vita will be a surprise to existing PlayStation Portable owners. The device is quite light and remains comfortable to hold during extended movie watching or gaming sessions.

Controls: The two joysticks on the front are slightly smaller than their console counterparts but work great once you adjust to the size difference. The front and rear touch screens are responsive without being overly sensitive. The slight learning curve is handled very well through the Welcome Park app that is pre-installed on the device. After playing a few of the mini-games available, you will feel right at home with the user interface of the PS Vita.

Social Apps: Facebook, Foursquare, Twitter and Skype are free to download from the PS Vita Store. All of the apps work incredibly well and feature easy-to-use interfaces. Many games allow you to check your social apps or chat with friends while playing a game by touching the PS Home button on the face of the device.

Near: Near is a social app exclusive to the PS Vita. By using Wireless Location and GPS services, the Near app allows you to search for other PS Vita players in your area. You can start chats, join multiplayer games and view profiles directly from the user interface for easy matchmaking and a more immersive online experience.

Cross Play Technology: Developers can include cross-platform support in PS Vita games. This will allow PS Vita users to play against PlayStation 3 users in real-time, opening up the potential pool of online opponents substantially. Another feature of this technology allows you to pause a supporting game on the PlayStation 3 and pick up where you left off on your PS Vita.

What is Not Great About the PlayStation Vita?

Battery Life: Sony estimates between three to five hours of use on a single charge. That is with the device at default brightness and with wireless or sound disabled. By enabling the wireless and sound on the device, you can count on battery life to stay towards the bottom of that estimate. If you are looking for the battery life of a smart phone or tablet, it simple is not there. However, a variety of travel adapters and the standard USB charging cable makes charging the device simple while on the go.

Proprietary Memory Card: Yet again, Sony has decided to release a proprietary memory card. This means you must buy a memory card that is specifically designed for the PS Vita. It will not fit in your camera or function with standard memory card readers without an adapter. All interfacing with the card must be handled through the PS Vita or specialized computer software. These cards are not bundled with the device and must be purchased separately to use many of the features of the device.

Backwards Compatibility: With a lack of UMD reader on the device, hardware-based backwards compatibility is out of the question. However, through the UMD Passport program, owners of PSP games can use their PSP to get discounts on digital versions of the games they already own on the PS Vita store. While this essentially means you will have to buy your games twice to enjoy them on the PS Vita, it is better than no support at all.

Ultimate Flash Sonic was one of the hottest games of 2004 winning several awards in Newgrounds which is the home of all sorts of Adobe Flash games and animations. Although Sega did not develop this free-to-play game, many people praised this fan-made project for being very faithful to the Sonic Advance games on the Gameboy Advance. The level design was spot on and it even had some familiar tunes from the classic Sonic games on the Sega Genesis. While the game is quite short with 4 levels and 2 boss battles, the designers decided to add some nifty Ultimate Flash Sonic cheats to add some appeal. You can conveniently experience all cheats without really spoiling the game by entering “595313131313131″ as your password. This password will unlock the following Ultimate Flash Sonic cheats.

Complete Cheats Menu

The first thing you will notice is that the “Cheats” item from the main menu actually has some stuff in it. Two of these cheats affect the gameplay while the others are purely for cosmetic purposes

The first item is “Sonic-Run 2” and all it does is change Sonic’s running animation so make sure you select Sonic as your main character. While this doesn’t affect Sonic’s speed in any way, it certainly looks nice and it makes you feel as if you are going much faster.

The next item is called “Tails Follow” which adds Tails to the playing field. As long as your chosen character isn’t Tails, you will enter the level with Tails following you wherever you go. This cheat pays tribute to the classic Sega Genesis Sonic titles that featured Tails as the sidekick. However, you cannot control Tails and he will always be flying. He cannot help defeat enemies or die so his addition does not affect the game at all.

“Big-Cheese” is the third cosmetic cheat that simply makes Cheese bigger. You have to play as Cream because Cheese only tags along with Cream.

“Behind” is one of the Ultimate Flash Sonic cheats that can affect your gameplay. It actually makes the game harder various elements like walls and ledges will appear in the foreground. Once you walk through those elements, you won’t be able to see your character and your character is still vulnerable too so keep moving. This is a nice cheat because it encourages you to try other paths to beat the level if the background is too hard.

The “Moon” cheat is a double-edged sword because while it makes you perform higher jumps, your run acceleration is severely decreased.

Other Unlockables

This cheat will also let you play as Shadow the Hedgehog and Amy Rose and you do not have to enter any other Ultimate Flash Sonic cheats. While these characters essentially play and feel the same, Shadow the Hedgehog wasn’t a playable character in any of the Sonic Advance games so you may get a kick out of that. A level select has been added as well as a jukebox feature where you can play any of the tracks from the game and continue your game while your selected track stays on loop.

Ultimate Flash Sonic Cheats for Everyone

It is never really a good idea to cheat the first time you play a game especially if the game is a Sonic game. The classic Sonic games on the Sega Genesis were famous for their level select codes and debug codes that give you a huge advantage in the game. You can go wherever you like and create rings anywhere so it is very unlikely for you to lose lives and get that game over screen. It is best to enjoy the game and explore the vast levels so you get challenged and get satisfied when you overcome the challenges. This can be said with the Ultimate Flash Sonic game that you can find on Newgrounds. It isn’t an official game in the Sonic series but it certainly plays like one and the ones that made the game made sure that you couldn’t fully cheat your way to win. However, there are some Ultimate Flash Sonic cheats to enjoy if you manage to beat the game.

Activating the Ultimate Flash Sonic Cheats Early

If you want to get the best impression of this great fan-made game, you might as well activate the Ultimate Flash Sonic cheats right away. The game does use a password system and that password field allows you to unlock all of the Ultimate Flash Sonic cheats too if you put “595313131313131″ as the password. Once you entered the cheats, you can still go on and create a game while ignoring the “Cheats” menu for the time being.

When you select a character, you will notice that you have 6 characters to choose from. This is how it should be because all of the characters have the same gameplay style anyway. Therefore it is completely safe to play as Amy Rose or Shadow the Hedgehog if you really want to. You will still enjoy the thrills of the different acts and you won’t get any real advantages from the characters. In fact, if you choose Shadow the Hedgehog, you will really feel like you are playing a fresh new game because all of the other Sonic Advance games do not let you play as Shadow the Hedgehog.

Before you start the game, you will be greeted with a level select screen. This isn’t a serious cheat out of the Ultimate Flash Sonic cheats because you can start from the very beginning anyway. If you pause the game while playing, you will also notice a bigger menu that lets you change the current act music on the fly. You can play an entire act while the cool boss music is playing which is a pretty neat feature.

Having Fun with Other Ultimate Flash Sonic Cheats

If you prefer playing Sonic anyway, try turning on the Sonic-Run 2 cheat from the “Cheats” menu because the animation is much better and you won’t get any benefits from it. If you prefer Cream you can also make Cream’s partner Cheese bigger. You can also add Tails and make him follow you by activating that cheat. Another cheat adds a bit of difficulty to the game by increasing the height of your jumps while decreasing your acceleration speed. The other cheat puts your character behind any wall backgrounds. You can activate a combination of these Ultimate Flash Sonic cheats to make your gameplay experience unique without spoiling the fun.

Mortal Kombat Gold is the updated version of Mortal Kombat 4. Mortal Kombat 4 was on the Nintendo 64, Sony PlayStation, GameBoy Color and the PC in 1998. In 1999, the updated version of the game was ported to the Sega Dreamcast and titled Mortal Kombat Gold. Each version of Mortal Kombat 4 and Mortal Kombat Gold were ported from the arcade versions of the popular fighting game series. Many familiar faces appear in this installment, such as Johnny Cage, Sonya Blade and others, however, new Mortal Kombat characters appear for the first time.

Fujin: Known as “Wind God” makes his first official appearance in a Mortal Kombat game. Fujin joins Raiden to defeat Shinnok and to raid the palace of Shao Kahn. Shinnok is successfully defeated and Fujin becomes the God of Earthrealm.

Jarek: Jarek is part of the clan Black Dragon. He used moves taught to him by Kano, his advisor. He is the last member of this clan and Sonya Blade tries to chase him for his crimes. He joins the fight to defeat Shinnok. When Shinnok is defeated, Sonya Blade wants him to join OIA however, he declined. He tries to murder Sonya, however, Jax throws him off a cliff.

Kai: Was a member of the White Lotus Society. When he was in America training to become a Shaolin warrior, he met a fighter named Liu Kang. He and Liu Kang join the rest of the Earth Warriors to help Raiden defeat Shinnok in Edenia.

Meat: An art director for Mortal Kombat 4 named Tony Goskie came up with the Meat character. Meat was a model for the game, however, it was decided later on that he was to become a playable character, but as an “Easter egg.” Meat is just skin and bones of other Mortal Kombat Gold characters.

Quan Chi: Quan Chi is a powerful sorcerer. Chi wanted to retrieve the defeated Shinnok’s amulet from Sub-Zero, however, Chi replaced it with an imitation amulet. Raiden summoned Sub-Zero to retrieve the amulet and he confronted Quan Chi by defeating him. Quan Chi was upset with his defeat, so years later, he resurrected Scorpion and brainwashed him to make him believe Sub-Zero killed his family. Scorpion finds out the truth and grabs Quan Chi and sends him to Netherrealm. Chi tricks to other fighters to attack Scorpion, so he can escape.

Reiko: Reiko was the general for Shinnok’s army, the Brotherhood of Shadow and of Shao Kahn’s army.Shinnok was defeated and Reiko goes into exile. He returns and becomes a member of Kahn’s army.

Shinnok: Shinnok was an Elder God that wanted to rule the Earthrealm. He wanted to become as powerful as ever, so he created a powerful amulet. He started a war against all Elder Gods, including Raiden. Raiden and the other Gods defeat Shinnok and take his amulet. He is sent to Netherrealm and then summons Quan Chi, so he can take over the Netherrealm. When Shao Kahn was defeated, he planned to escape Netherrealm. Liu Kang defeats Shinnok before he could take over the realms.

Tanya: She is an alluring and innocent woman, however, she becomes evil and betrays Liu Kang and her home Edenia. She betrays notable characters, such as Kitana, Sindel and Jade.

Returning Mortal Kombat Gold Characters

Mortal Kombat 4/Mortal Kombat Gold was the fourth installment of the popular fighting series, Mortal Kombat. Developed by Midway Games and released in the arcade circuit in 1997. This installment of the Mortal Kombat series is the first to use animations that are in 3D and made in 3D. A company called Eurocom ported Mortal Kombat 4 to the video game consoles at the time, such as Sony PlayStation One, PC, Gameboy Color, and the Nintendo 64 in 1998. The updated version of Mortal Kombat 4 was ported to the Sega Dreamcast a year later in 1999 called Mortal Kombat Gold. Many returning Mortal Kombat gold characters appear in this game.

Returning Mortal Kombat Gold Characters

Liu Kang: Kang has appeared in all installments of Mortal Kombat. In Mortal Kombat Fold, Kang discovered his girlfriend; Kitana has been abducted by one of the Elder God’s named Shinnok. Liu Kang gathers warriors to take on and to defeat Shinnok. Kang confronts the Elder God himself and he defeats him. Kang captures Kitana. He and Kitana do not continue their romantic relationship.

Johnny Cage: Cage makes his first appearance back in the series since he did not appear in Mortal Kombat 3.
Johnny Cage is allowed by Raiden to enter the tournament and he joins his friends. He defeats the former Elder God Shinnok, the God that planned a holy war between Earth Realm and Outworld.

Goro: Goro is a sub-boss in many of the Mortal Kombat games. He is a bodyguard for Shang Tsung and Shao Kahn. Goro returns in this game to join his Shokan race to go to war with the Centaurians until Kung Lao challenges him to a fight. Goro allies himself with the Edenians and signs a peace treaty established by Kitana with the Centaurians.

Jax: Jax is a major in the U.S. Special Forces. Ax joins his Earth Realm friends to stop Shinnok from entering planet Earth. Shinnok is defeated, however, Jax discovers his partner Sonya is about to die, so he grabs Jarek and throws him off a cliff. Sonya and Jax find the robot Cyrax in a desert. They return Cyrax to their headquarters to restore him.

Noob Saibot: He is not a hidden character any longer. You can play with him as a playable character.

Reptile: He returns in Mortal Kombat Gold as a henchman for the God Shinnok.

Raiden: With the help of Liu Kang and others, Raiden became the Elder God, however, he gave his position to Fujin.

Scorpion: Scorpion is manipulated by Quan Chi to think that Sub-Zero killed his clan and his entire family. Scorpion defeats Sub-Zero, however, he finds out Quan Chi lied and he sends Chi to Netherealm.

Sub-Zero: Raiden summons him to enter the tournament, however, Quan Chi brainwashes Scorpion to make him believe he killed his clan. He fights Scorpion, however, he leaves the fight when Scorpion finds out the truth.

Sonya Blade: Sonya returns to MK Gold as a member of the OIA. Sonya teamed up with fellow member Jax to team with Liu Kang and Raiden to defeat Shinnok. Jarek, a member of the Black Dragons, has decided to go against Sonya’s offer to join forces with her and he tries to kill her. Jax saves her from Jarek by killing him. Sonya and Jax find Cyrax in a desert and bring him to OIA headquarters to save his life.

Six Exclusive Mortal Kombat Gold Characters

Mortal Kombat Gold has many Mortal Kombat Gold characters that are returning characters from the first three Mortal Kombat games and some are new characters. Mortal Kombat Gold is only on the Sega Dreamcast and this game has exclusive characters not on Mortal Kombat 4. The game is called Mortal Kombat Gold because it is the updated version. Six additional Mortal Kombat Gold characters were exclusive to this version of the game (at the time). In addition to those six Mortal Kombat Gold characters, a character named Belokk was developed, however, he was removed from because the game developers could not complete the character in time for release.

Six Additional Mortal Kombat Gold Characters

Baraka: Baraka is the leader of the Tarkatan Clan. He makes an appearance as an additional Mortal Kombat Gold character. Baraka joins forces with Quan Chi and Shinnok’s army to conquer the realm Edenia. However, all of them are defeated by Earthrealm.

Kung Lao: He returned to the Shaolin when Outworld was taken over. He lived a life of exile for quite some time. His time of peace did not last. He assisted in the fight against the Elder God Shinnok when he heard that Goro was alive. Shinnok was defeated and then he pursued Goro. He defeated Goro by leaving a scar across his chest.

Sektor: He was a part of the Lin Kuei clan alongside Sub-Zero. He was the first in his clan to become half-human, half robot aka a cyborg. He was sent to kill Sub-Zero when he was designated to his new unit in the Lin Kuei, however, he did not succeed.

Kitana: Shinnok and Quan Chi successfully escape from Netherrealm and begin to invade the real of Edenia. Tanya helps them by betraying Kitana, Sindel (Kitana’s mother) and Jade. All three women are taken as prisoners. Kitana is the only one to escape and she joins Earthrealm to go against the army of Shinnok. The army is defeated by Kitana and her warriors. She offers the Edenia realm to Liu Kang, however, he refuses the offer to become the king. Later, Shao Kahn, her father is still alive and wants to regain control, so she convinces Goro to sign a peace treaty. Kitana forms an army of Goro’s family and the rest of the Edenians to defeat Kahn and his army.

Mileena: Mileena is part of the invasion of the Edenia realm with Elder God Shinnok, however, she allows Kitana to escape imprisonment. When Shinnok is defeated, she returns to Kitana’s palace to capture the Edenia realm, however, Kitana declined. Mileena is locked in a dungeon when she attempts to attack Kitana.

Cyrax: Cyrax is a cyborg that has been discovered and repaired by his clan, Lin Kuei. He is sent out again to battle with fellow member Sektor. When the Elder God Shinnok is defeated, Jax and Sonya Blade restore him back into a human and join their Special Forces group called the OIA.
