Valentine Gift Baskets

Valentine’s Day gift baskets are an ideal Valentine’s Day gift for anyone whether they’re celebrating the 14th of February with a loved one or single. Homemade Valentine gift baskets are a refreshing breath of air in the midst of suffocating holiday commercialism. They’re thrifty but special offerings that any recipient is sure to love. It doesn’t have to take a lot of money or back breaking effort to show that you care. All it takes is a little thoughtfulness and some creativity.

First of all, you’ll need some sort of container that will comprise the “basket.” Sure, they’re called Valentine gift baskets but it doesn’t actually have to be one. You can recycle a glass jar or some sort of bowl if you like, anything that looks nice and is capable of holding things inside of it. But if you’re a staunch traditionalist and you firmly believe that only a real basket will do, you might have some spare baskets lying around the house from other occasions, or you can purchase one at a local thrift store. Whatever container you choose, the next step is making it look pretty. Tie on some ribbons, or hang some knick knacks on it, or paint it, or add flowers or some other accessories. Since it’s Valentine’s Day, hearts and cupids or something else as lovey dovey will be appropriate.

Once you have your Valentine’s Day gift basket container all decorated, you’ll need some goodies to fill it with. Everybody loves chocolate, but it really depends on the recipient’s taste. Maybe they don’t like chocolate, but they have a sweet tooth for cookies and brownies, or maybe they prefer alcoholic offerings. It’s up to you to discern what they will and won’t like. And it’s not like Valentine gift baskets have to be full of edible things. You might consider beauty products, music, books, mittens—Valentine gift baskets are highly versatile and the possibilities are limitless as long as they fit within the confines of your container.

When you’ve selected your contents, put them on some fancy bedding like some tissue paper or a handkerchief. To put the proverbial icing on the cake, you might include a personal handwritten Valentine’s Day note on top. A homemade Valentine’s Day card can easily be constructed from some construction paper and coloring pens. If you only have printer paper and ballpoint pens lying around, it’s the thought that counts, right?
