We’ve just moved into a more spacious home, which means that my two little boys will be able to have bedrooms of their own instead of sharing like at our last place. We’re starting from scratch with the decorating and are allowing the boys to choose their own themes. Both have, not surprisingly, expressed interest in going with an overall sports decor, so that’s what I’ll have in mind as I shop for furniture and accessories. I’m planning to buy race car beds for each, and then add to the theme from there.
We promised the boys race car beds a long time ago, and they’ve never forgotten. Our last house was just too small to accommodate anything but bunks in the kids’ room. That was fun for a while, but nothing can truly compare to race car beds! What child wouldn’t be thrilled to climb into a bed that looks like an ultra-sleek roadster? What a great way to make bedtime fun!
The race car beds will definitely be the centerpieces in each room, but the decorations won’t stop there. The boys also love football — especially our hometown team, the Chicago Bears. So I’m planning on buying sheets, pillowcases, and comforters that feature the Bears logo. I’m sure these will look terrific on the race car beds, and will help personalize the rooms even more. I’ve found some inexpensive NFL bedding sets online that will be just perfect for us; all I have to do is order them soon.
I am also looking at different ways to incorporate a baseball theme into the walls. Baseball is another of my sons’ favorite sports, so I definitely need to make sure it gets proper representation here. One idea is to paint the walls in team colors. For example, my oldest boy loves the Cubs, so blue walls with red trim might look nice. My youngest likes the White Sox, so white walls with black trim might work well in his bedroom. Or, I can keep it simple and just get MLB wallpaper for the borders.
To round things off, I’m also planning on buying a lot of sports-related accessories as well. We’re talking color-coordinated curtains, laundry hampers, wastebaskets, desk sets, framed posters… basically anything that belongs in the bedroom and has a logo on it! This could get a bit expensive, particularly since I have to buy two of everything, but my kids are definitely worth it.
I am as excited to get started on fixing up the boys’ bedrooms as they are! I’ll be ordering the race car beds first, then once I see how those look, I’ll be able to proceed from there. I have a feeling that the results are going to be amazing. It’s almost enough to make me wish I were a kid again!
