There’s a lot of debate within the witchcraft community. As a matter of fact, get two witchcraft magicians together and you’ll probably have three different opinions. Nevertheless, nowhere is this debate more marked than on the topic of white magic versus black magic. There are some people who contend that there is no different. White magical spells are simply spells that you believe are good according to these people, whereas dark magic spells are ones that you believe are evil. Other people have exactly the opposite opinion. They have a very highly defined view of what constitutes good versus evil magical workings. Something will either fit into one pigeonhole or another.

In my opinion, it all comes down to your intentions. There are all kinds of different styles, and a lot of them don’t fit neatly within white magic or some other category. That is why your intention makes a big difference with the results you will get. If you’re casting magic spell – be it a love spell, a good luck spell, or some spell to foresee the future – positive intentions will make a big difference. If you’re doing a spell to help someone and don’t mean to cause any bad results, it is a white magic spell in my opinion. If you’re doing it with the intention of hurting someone, no matter what the actual spell it is, it is evil.

Nonetheless, if you look at the history of white magic, there are some traditions that have a much more rigorous definition which has some logic in itself. A lot of people believe that magic spells are not a means to an end such as good luck or success in love and finance, but an end in themselves. According to these sorcerers, the whole point is to illuminate yourself through learning to work with the universe in its occult energies. For these people, a white magician is someone who casts spells with the aim of growing closer to that universal cosmic truth. For them, there is no higher goal than true enlightenment.

Of course, in magic as in everything else, you ultimately have to make up your mind. One psychic healer will tell you one thing whereas another one will tell you another thing. There are dozens of traditions, so the important thing is to find one that appeals to you. Don’t be too afraid. Playing with magic is a lot of fun, and you’re guaranteed to have good results as long as you get in with the right positive attitude.
