After a long wait, and a lot of speculation, Apple has finally announced the latest upgrade to the iPhone range with the iPhone 4S and iOS 5. But was it worth waiting for, and does it add much to the current model? Keep reading to find out more.

Design

The first thing you’ll notice about the iPhone 4S is that the design hasn’t changed since the iPhone 4. It has the sleek glass finish, the same 3.5 inch screen, the same weight and the same 960×640 resolution. Some may be disappointed that these specs haven’t improved.

Camera

The camera has been improved to 8MP, which brings it up to date with some of the top smartphones currently on the market. It’s a noticeable upgrade from the 5MP camera of the iPhone 4, and it can now record video in 1080p.

Processor

A processor upgrade is always nice to see, as it means that apps and games run a lot faster. The iPhone 4S makes use of a dual-core 1GHz processor, the same Apple A5 chip as the iPad 2. The RAM has also been upgraded to 1GB.

iOS 5

Buying the iPhone 4S isn’t the only way you’ll be able to experience iOS 5 – this operating system will also be made available to owners of older iPhones, iPod Touches and the iPad. Some of the key improvements include a less intrusive notification system, an app that allows iPhone users to message each other for free, the ability to own an iPhone without needing to connect it up to the PC, and access to Apple’s iCloud that’ll keep photos, music and multimedia in sync between devices.

Battery Life

The iPhone 4S comes with 8 hours battery life using 3G to talk. This is an improvement but a very minor one over the 7 hours of the iPhone 4.

Siri Voice Recognition

This is the upgrade that Apple were emphasizing the most: users can control the iPhone 4S with natural voice commands. This isn’t just for basic menu items, though: you can use it to compose a text message, or ask your phone to give you directions to the nearest Chinese restaurant.

Is The iPhone 4S Really Worth Buying?

Many were hoping for the release of the iPhone 5, making the smaller upgrades of the iPhone 4S a disappointment to some. That said, new features such as the dual-core processor and voice recognition system are enough to get many excited about the phone again. If you have an old iPhone, however, then you may want to wait a while and just take advantage of the iOS 5 upgrade instead.

Are you tired of using your old cell phone? Does it seem to lack the many features that can be found in your friends’ phones? If yes, then it may be time to buy a cell phone that has the needed features. Fortunately, there is a wide variety of cell phones to choose from. In fact, you are likely to have a more difficult job of selecting the right cell phone that getting one that has the features you need. It seems like today’s cell phones come packed with so many features that it seems overwhelming. The main uses of cell phones have however remained relatively the same. If looking to buy a cell phone you will therefore need to consider what you really want out of a cell phone and what you don’t really that would just result in unnecessary expenses.

Today’s cell phone market includes what are called smart phones. These are phones that do more than just call and send short messages. These phones are really small mini computers that have virtually all the capabilities of your desktop computer. Thus, if you are looking for a cell phone that will allow you to send and receive email, store megabytes of data and record audio or video, then you might find it more convenient if you buy a cell phone that has all of these features. Some of these cell phones even allow teleconferencing for busy executives.

As the world moves towards more mobility, it has become clearly evident that the cell phone will become the central place where this development is likely to take place. Major players in the telecommunications and software field have introduced new and innovative technologies that make the mobile device the convergence platform. Advanced software applications can now be able to retrieve and read your email, reminders, schedule events and meetings and connect you to your home or office PC and retrieve needed data. When you decide to buy a cell phone, consider all the above factors. Online reviews also offer one a more informed and broad view point on the different cell phones on the market. User reviews are especially important since they reveal the flaws devices as well as their capabilities from a user point of view. Thus, before you go out to buy a cell phone resolve what you want from a cell phone, how much you are willing to spend and what other users have said about the product. You will thus be making an informed decision in your purchase.

It seems today that every new device on the market has some sort of wireless capability that allows it communicate with other devices within range. One of these capabilities is Bluetooth. Bluetooth enabled phones, receivers, converters and recently Bluetooth wireless adapters have seen a proliferation. In order to have devices communicate without crashing in the Radio Frequency, Bluetooth seems to be the most favored choice. Bluetooth devices work in the range of 2.45GHz. This is the radio frequency range that lies between the 1GHz TV range and the 10GHz Satellite range. Thus in order for Bluetooth wireless adapters to function, they must also work within this range and more so at 2.45GHz.

One of the many advantages of having a Bluetooth wireless network is that Bluetooth devices communicate by creating what is called a Bluetooth piconet. In a Bluetooth piconet, seven active slaves are controlled by one master. However, there can be over 200 passive members on a piconet. With Bluetooth wireless adapters, transfer speeds can reach 721kbit/sec. This is a high speed connection, when you consider that high speed broadband connectivity starts at 256kbi/sec. In order to synchronize with the other devices on the network, a Bluetooth device adapts what is referred to as frequency hopping.

Because Bluetooth wireless adapters can connect different kinds of Bluetooth devices, there has to be a protocol that helps to determine what kinds of devices are on the network and what kind of services they are offering or requesting. This is achieved by utilizing the concept of service discovery. This involves sending out a query for other Bluetooth devices and any other information needed to establish a connection.

Today there are many different kinds of Bluetooth wireless adapters that are used to connection the ever-growing list of Bluetooth devices. From headsets to sunglasses with Bluetooth capability, the list is endless. Bluetooth wireless adapters will allow you to dial to the internet on your Bluetooth enabled laptop without having you to take the phone out from your pocket. On the other hand, a Bluetooth adapter will allow you to form a virtual private network to connect your phone, laptop and PDA and update information. The uses of Bluetooth are endless and only limited by our imagination. Thanks to Bluetooth wireless adapters, all of the devices can now connect without interference or conflicts common in other wireless technologies.

Telephones have been around for over a century now, and they’ve never seen a revolution as big as cellular phones. Or have they? Cellular phones are great and all, but for high volumes of calls, home or office phones are still the best way to go. What if these cheaper home and office phones could be even cheaper? They can, if you switch to using a VoIP Internet phone.

What is a VoIP Internet phone? VoIP stands for “voice over Internet Protocol”. Let me explain in English. A VoIP Internet phone uses your data connection, as opposed to a traditional phone connection. Essentially, you use your whatever form of Internet hook-up you have to place telephone calls for lower rates than you’ve ever seen. The ironic thing about that is that long before DSL or wi-fi, you had to use a phone modem to access the Internet. Times have changed and the tables have flipped. The cheapest way to make a phone call is with a VoIP Internet phone.

The benefits to using a VoIP Internet phone are plain. The first thing that’s obvious is that unlike phone lines, there is no such thing as “long-distance” on the Internet. Your VoIP Internet phone call will cost the same regardless of where it is placed to. Furthermore, whereas your phone line is metered by the minute or by the second, the Internet is not. The Internet is usually given as a monthly flat rate – this rate includes a data usage. This data limit is usually so high that the average VoIP Internet phone user would never exceed it, thus, it’s practically free from that standpoint. VoIP Internet phone sites will charge you fees for using their applications, but that is the only cost you’ll incur and it’s far lower than you would ever pay for your phone systems.

Cell phones have long claimed to be the replacement for your home or office phone. But the affordability of an VoIP Internet phone is making people reconsider that. A VoIP Internet phone is a great replacement for your home phone line, as you’ll essentially be turning your two monthly bills – Internet and phone into one. Switching to a VoIP Internet phone might be a bit of money at first, but the savings for cutting off your phone service could be in the hundreds every year. If you don’t want to be stuck relying on only your cell phone or if you make a lot of long distance calls, a VoIP Internet phone is right for you.
