Asics’ models are usually about building on the success of the design choices made in a previous successful  model – not introducing something altogether revolutionary. True to form, the Offset Lacing system that has been a hit in several previous models is revived in the current model to great effect. The basic purpose that this advanced lacing system serves is that it locks each foot right on the instep. Just as a major rock act in concert doesn’t come out until the opening acts warm the audience up, the US Open has several season openers that whet the audience’s appetite for the main event. The opening acts number in ten and take up the entire summer with tournament names like the ATP World Tour and the Sony Ericsson WT tour. They begin July 19 each year. They call this the Olympus US Open Series. There are millions to be won over the series. Last year, it was Raphael Nadal and Dinara Safina who won. The USA Tennis Open, the culmination of it all, attracted three-quarters of a million fans last year and would you believe it, it holds the record as the highest-attended sporting event held on a yearly basis around the world.

It isn’t for nothing that sporting purists lament the absolute rule of money in modern athletics and other sports. The money trail doesn’t end with what the champions gain either. There is the whole betting market that operates around Flushing Meadows to consider too. The bookmakers (established names like Ladbrokes and Boylesports) have Ralph Nadal and Roger Federer tied neck and neck. There are millions of dollars resting on the performance of these world-class players. As far as the betting market is concerned, Federer is not a winner – he is a spent force – even if he just won the 2010 Australian Open. But it’s difficult to count him out considering the handful of US Tennis Open titles he already holds.

And that’s how a major sporting event is seen today – the players come there for the money, and the spectators come there for the money (although they spend thousands each on tickets). Perhaps people will begin to lend their support to the minor events more often – considering how they are yet untainted by the lucre.

I remember that when I first started running I was pretty heavy. My feet and ankles really hurt when I got back in, and I just assumed that it was because of my excess weight. The reality of the matter is that it probably was, in part, but I also believe that it was the shoes that I chose.

I started having problems with blisters and callouses, and I noticed that they were not holding up the way that I had hoped. Within a few weeks, they had gone out completely and it was on to a new and different pair.

I think I went through about four pairs before I finally found the Reebock running shoes. As soon as I put them on, I could feel the support and difference in comfort level from the other shoes that I had bought before. I walked around in them and realized that these would probably do the trick.

To my delight, I had no problems at all and finished the marathon in a pretty decent time. When it was over, I sat around and visited with a bunch of my friends about the race. They said that they were really proud of me and said that I had come a long way.

You can get yourself into better physical condition. Skateboarding is more physically demanding than meets the eye. Simply having strong legs is not going to get it done for you. Skateboarding involves all of the muscles of your body because all of them are needed to keep you stabilized and balanced as you ride your skateboard and, later on, when you begin using it for more than simply moving from point A to point B. If you want total control over your board you will need to be in good physical shape. A decent and respectable work-out regimen will produce faster results in your skating.

Don’t be concerned about skating slowly. A lot of really new skaters try to do the tricks, and they really don’t quite have the skill sets for it. Many times this produces frustration, anger, or worse – an injury. Just because you managed to ride a few blocks without falling off does not mean that you are ready to do tricks. Even doing a simple hop is harder than you think. Go slowly, steadily, and learn to ride for a long distance. Learn how to quickly start and gain speed and then stop smoothly without falling down. When you can skate long distances down the streets and can do that without running into pedestrians and falling, then you’re good to begin trying some tricks.

But stopping can be a little tricky. If you’re new, just stop by dragging a foot. You can also try taking small-like steps to lose speed, kind of like opposite of the push-off. Instead of a fluid motion in one direction, you want to take small steps in the opposite direction.

This can punish your feet a little but it’ll stop you. When you’re ready to try it, you can drag the rear of your board on the ground and comfortably stop. Caution: You’ll want to avoid tail grinding if your speed is up there.

Even the basics of skateboarding can feel complicated if you are not willing to put in the work to learn them slowly and surely. No one was ever an immediate pro. Be patient and learn how to control that board. If you don’t, you are more likely to let the board control you, which is how you get hurt!
