Hockey is a well-loved sport that revolves around a flat, circular object. This black orb, better known as the hockey puck, is the drawing force that brings sticks and skates together in one singular objective. Getting the goal is all-important in this intense sport and the hockey puck is the foundation of any scoring goal.

Even though many of us have seen this ltle black object being hoisted around the ice for many years, there are those who are taken back when they hold an ice hockey puck for the first time. The standard puck is actually que heavy.

There is little wonder why the ice hockey rink is surrounded by protective glass shields. The very dense nature of the professional grade puck makes a virtual weapon when in flight. For this reason, there are a number of different types of hockey pucks designed for different uses.

Younger players can use a training hockey puck that is lighter and less dense. These pucks are commonly blue in color and weight about four ounces. The training pucks are ideal for any player who isn’t que ready to use s heavier standard counterpart. The standard hockey puck weighs about six ounces.

Six ounces may not seem very heavy but is when you are dealing with a dense object like these. Add the force of a well aimed hockey stick giving the object momentum and you have a very significant six ounces coming at you at a high rate of speed. However, there are other training pucks that are actually heavier than the standard.

You can recognize these training hockey pucks by their reddish color. Some have a pink undertone and some have an orange hue mixed in the red base. These trainers are a whopping ten ounces. They are really designed to help young players develop specific skills.

Young players usually need to improve how well they handle their sticks. The heavier training hockey puck is ideal for helping players who want to improve their shots. They also help them develop strength and agily on the ice. Once they master the heavy trainer, they can move on to the standard size.

There is a two-pound hockey puck that is used on rare occasions. This is strictly for increasing wrist strength. It isn’t good for actual play and is nearly impossible to shoot this kind of training equipment.
